The A-line is the closest thing bridal has to a universal crowd-pleaser. Fitted through the bodice and gradually flaring from the waist, it creates balance across almost every body type. If you want to define your waist without a dramatic silhouette, or you are not sure where to start, it is rarely a bad first port of call — and it is forgiving to wear all day, so you can actually sit and dance in it.
The ballgown: the statement maker
The ballgown never really went anywhere, and in 2026 it is having a proper moment. The full skirt creates a dramatic contrast with a fitted bodice and gives you that sweep-into-the-room feeling. Brides who worry it will overwhelm them often discover the opposite: the structure and volume can create a beautifully balanced proportion from the waist up. Fit-and-flare and mermaid: for the drama
