FAQ Dresses & style

What if I don't know what wedding dress I want?

Bridal gowns at Serenity Brides

Not knowing is completely fine — in fact it is often the best way to arrive. The dress you end up saying yes to is frequently one your stylist pulled from the rail that you would never have reached for yourself. You try it on half-convinced it will not be right, and then something shifts in the mirror, and the dress you never knew you wanted turns out to be the one you cannot imagine getting married in anything else. This happens at Serenity Brides more often than you might think. It is not magic — it is skill that comes from dressing hundreds of brides with care.

What brides tell us afterwards

Beth came to us for her very first appointment, nervous and unsure what to expect, with her own ideas about what she was looking for. Her stylist Lyndsey listened to all of it — then went to work. “She ended up finding me a dress that I did not originally pick and I fell in love with it,” Beth told us. Jemma had almost exactly the same experience: “I tried on quite a few dresses and ended up loving one that Nicola chose for me.” What she said she wanted and what made her feel extraordinary turned out to be two slightly different things — and Nicola could see that before Jemma could.

Lisa Skinner came to us nervous and anxious, the way most brides do. Her stylist Saffron asked her one question, repeatedly, with each dress: “How do you feel in it?” Not how does it look — how do you feel. That kept the process honest, anchored in something real, and when the right dress came along, Lisa knew. “She was so patient and kind and made me feel amazing making every second count.”

What is actually happening behind the scenes

When your stylist steps away to pull more dresses, she is not simply browsing. She is processing everything you have said and done since you walked in — but weighting it in ways that are not always obvious. She is watching how you move in each dress, what your face does when you step onto the platform, whether your shoulders relax or tighten. She is noting the moment you stop looking at the dress and start looking at yourself in it. She is reading the difference between “I like this” and “something feels right here,” because those are very different things even when they sound similar.

She is also drawing on something you cannot have: the knowledge of having done this hundreds of times. She has seen brides who said they hated lace fall completely in love with a lace dress, and brides convinced they needed a ballgown discover the dress that made them cry was a simple column. As Tia Butler said of Gemma: “She takes the time to understand your personality, style, likes, dislikes… Somehow, she manages to find exactly what you’re looking for.” A job is going through a process correctly. A passion is genuinely caring whether you leave feeling like yourself, only better.

How to make the most of it

The most important thing you can do is say honestly how you feel in each dress — not how you think it looks, not whether you think you should like it, but whether it makes you feel something. That is what your stylist is working with. It also helps to stay open: if she suggests something that surprises you, try it. Giving it a chance costs nothing, and occasionally it costs nothing and changes everything.

“Looking for a wedding dress wasn’t something I thought I’d be doing after being with my better half for 20 years.. But here we are planning our wedding day. I looked online and found a dress at Serenity bridal and decided to go. The dress I wanted didn’t fit but Stevie was there to save the day… Stevie was my consultant and what a wonderful lady she is, from start to finish she was attentive and ran around finding dresses that we could try on. Stevie made me feel just wonderful and confident, her lovely personality made my very overwhelming experience of finding the right dress for me much easier. After just my second visit with Stevie I said yes to the dress and I can’t wait to wear it…. Thank you Stevie… you are a star. ⭐️ Everyone at the shop were so lovely and very happy to help and had all the time in the world for me. Thank you all at Serenity Brides 💗”
