You will find them with us, right here in Colchester. We are an independent, family-run boutique that takes the mother of the bride as seriously as the bridal gowns — your own dedicated appointment, your own stylist, a proper session focused on you rather than an afterthought squeezed between bridal fittings. You want to look properly wonderful without overshadowing anyone, and to feel like yourself, only a little more polished. That is exactly what we set out to do for you.
It is your day too — a little
Brides rightly get the spotlight, but a wedding is a family occasion, and the mother of the bride sits close to its heart. You will be in the receiving line, in the speeches, in the first dances and the family photographs that get framed and passed around for years. So the outfit matters more than people sometimes admit. It deserves the same care, the same proper appointment, the same honest opinion in front of a good mirror that we give every bride.
The collections we carry
Mother-of-the-bride dressing has come a long way, and the range now is genuinely lovely. We stock Condici, John Charles, Veni Infantino, Jacques Vert and Veromia, among others — names that understand how to cut an outfit that flatters a real body, holds its shape through a long day, and photographs beautifully. That might mean a softly structured dress and matching coat in a colour that actually suits your complexion, or separates you can wear again, or a jacket that does the work so you feel covered and comfortable without losing the occasion of it. We can help with the finishing touches too — the fascinator or hat, the accessories that pull it all together. Sarah came in unsure of what she wanted and left with the perfect dress and a matching fascinator, telling us she walked out a delighted customer.
On colour, comfort and not overthinking it
On colour, the old rules have relaxed. You do not have to avoid every shade, but it is worth checking with the bride whether she has a palette in mind, and steering clear of white and ivory for obvious reasons. Beyond that, the right colour is the one that lights up your face, and we will be straight with you about which ones do. On comfort: a wedding is a long day, often on your feet and frequently emotional. An outfit that looks lovely but pinches by the speeches is not the right outfit. We always factor in how it feels, not just how it looks, because you carry yourself differently when you are comfortable, and it shows.
Give yourself a little time
These are not quite the long lead time of a bridal gown, but the best advice is still to start earlier than you think — many outfits are ordered in your size rather than bought off the rail. A few months ahead is a comfortable window. If you are closer than that, do not panic; come in and talk to us, and we will work out what is possible together.
We treat the mother of the bride the way we would want our own mums looked after: warmly, honestly, and with no rushing. If you are ready to start looking, we would love to help. Call us on 01206 577756 or book a dedicated mother of the bride appointment. See the mother of the bride collection.
