Absolutely yes. The fear that there will be nothing in your size, that you will feel judged, or that nothing will suit you is understandable — too many brides have had exactly that experience elsewhere. But it is not how it works here. We carry over 500 wedding dresses across our boutique and our sister shop, Rock Your Curves, which is entirely dedicated to plus-size bridal. Choice is not the issue. Your dress is in there. The only question is which one you will fall in love with.
Myth one: the choice will be limited
This is the most common fear, and it is completely understandable. Too many brides have heard stories of boutiques with only one or two larger-size dresses, tucked away somewhere apologetic. That experience is real, and it is not good enough. Rock Your Curves opened right next door in 2021 — not an afterthought, not a separate rail, but a whole boutique designed around you. The range is genuine, the variety is real, and being surrounded by dresses actually made for your body is something our brides tell us feels transformative.
Myth two: you will feel judged or unwelcome
This fear runs deeper than choice — it is about whether the space will feel safe. Kelly Commons came to Rock Your Curves with her best friend, who was nervous after a disappointing experience at another shop earlier the same day. What happened could not have been more different. “From start to finish she was made to feel so special and important,” Kelly told us. “Gemma was so attentive and effortlessly amazing at making my friend feel comfortable and beautiful. We had been to another shop earlier in the day and it wasn’t even 5% of the experience we got here. My friend left after finding ‘The Dress’ and feeling so confident.” The appointment is unhurried, personal, and completely free of pressure — Gemma sits down with you before a single dress is lifted from the rail.
Myth three: nothing will actually suit you
There is a persistent belief that certain silhouettes and fabrics are off-limits depending on how you look. Anna Davies came to us with that fear fully formed. “My fear of trying on dresses as a plus size bride vanished,” she told us. “I said yes to the dress — totally different to what I had ever imagined. I felt comfortable and loved every second of it.” That last detail is worth sitting with: the dress she said yes to was completely different from what she had pictured. This happens constantly. A skilled stylist knows how to bridge the gap between the dress in your head and the one your body falls in love with. Poppy Baxter put it simply: she was “made to feel beautiful and special no matter my size.”
The thing no one tells you
After nearly two decades of dressing brides in Colchester and across Essex, here is what we know: the anxiety before the appointment is almost never matched by the experience inside it. Brides who arrive nervous, who have spent weeks dreading the changing room, consistently leave transformed — not just with a dress, but with a feeling they did not expect to have.
If you have been putting off making an appointment, please let us change that for you. Come and spend ninety minutes in a boutique built for you — or pop your head into Rock Your Curves next door.
